In the the last five years we have seen more CDOs becoming presidents and chancellors. Maybe not enough to call it a trend but certainly an interesting development. At the same time we are seeing more and more non traditional (not Provosts, Deans etc.) presidents being appointed at universities. We know we can safely call that a trend because the number of non traditionals has been significantly increasing. Now add to this list the CDOs.
Governing boards are more and more seeing the skill set needed to be a successful leader/president in today's world being very different from past skill sets needed. This is an important development and trend.
